Share of renewable energy in Azerbaijan to reach 24% by 2026

JULY 25, 2022

The share of renewable energy sources in electricity production in Azerbaijan will be increased to 24% by 2026, Report informs, citing the Strategy for Socio-Economic Development of Azerbaijan for 2022-2026 approved by President Ilham Aliyev today.

The strategy states that it will align with the 30% target by 2030.

As reported, the regulatory environment in the energy sector will be improved, and liberal market principles will be applied: "The use of renewable energy sources will be increased, and energy efficiency will be ensured. The use of environmentally friendly vehicles and other green technologies will be expanded to combat climate change."

The strategy emphasizes that as a result, the state's financial burden in the energy field will be reduced, and subsidies will be suspended in stages.
