Germany to introduce additional charges for electricity

JULY 28, 2022

From October 1, the German authorities will begin to levy an additional fee on electricity consumers, the Ministry of Economy and Climate Protection said.

Report informs, citing the DPA agency, that they are going to charge additional money from customers for a year and a half, until March 2024. The amount of the fee is not yet known. The Ministry of Economy should disclose the information about that by the end of August. The amount will depend on what compensatory claims the gas importers present.

The move followed the reduction in gas supplies from the Russian Federation. The day before, the Federal Network Agency of Germany confirmed a decrease in the volume of gas pumped through the Nord Stream pipeline to a level of 19.5% of its maximum capacity.
