Azerbaijan is a very important partner for Hungary in terms of energy, Hungarian security policy expert Attila Demko told Report.
According to him, Azerbaijani-Hungarian relations are strengthening further at the moment.
The role of Hungary's partnership relations with Azerbaijan has increased after the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the expert said, adding that Russian oil and gas supplies are now less reliable than before, so Budapest needs diversification.
Attila Demko stressed that Azerbaijan is one of the countries with vast potential in this area, both in terms of oil and natural gas.
According to Demko, an important aspect of cooperation may be the supply of electricity, which is planned to be exported via a submarine cable from Azerbaijan along the bottom of the Black Sea to Europe.
Hungary was one of the signatories of the agreement on this project last December.
The expert emphasized that Azerbaijan used to be an important country for Hungary, but in 2022 Baku became a strategic partner of Budapest.
