The Czech Republic intends to reduce dependence on oil supplies via Russia's Druzhba pipeline. To do this, Prague is going to increase the capacity of the TAL transalpine oil pipeline in 2024, Czech media reports, citing Prime Minister Petr Fiala.
"The pipeline operator MERO and the TAL consortium have reached an agreement on the implementation of a project to expand the capacity of the oil pipeline, which should be completed in 2024," he said.
The TAL pipeline connects Trieste, where oil tankers arrive from all over the world, with Germany. From there, the oil is transported to the Czech Republic via the IKL pipeline.
The Czech Republic needs to import 7-8 million tons to meet its needs for fuel. 50% of them are supplied via the Druzhba pipeline, and the other half via IKL.
