Azerbaijani gas supplies have become a turning point in Bulgaria's energy security, Deputy Energy Minister of Bulgaria Iva Petrova said, Report informs via Bulgarian media.
The commissioning of the Greece-Bulgaria Interconnector (IGB) was a turning point, she said, as it provided access to the LNG terminal, as well as to the Southern Gas Corridor, which brings natural gas from Azerbaijan to Bulgaria.
The Deputy Minister noted that another important project is the terminal in Alexandroupoli, in which the Bulgarian company Bulgartransgaz owns a stake: "We hope that this terminal will be operational by the end of the year. Bulgargaz has reserved 1 billion cubic meters of capacity in the terminal."
According to Iva Petrova, Bulgaria is working on interconnecting gas links with Serbia and North Macedonia, as well as increasing the storage capacity in Chiren: "We are participating in the common gas supply platform initiated by the European Union. These efforts have led to the diversification of supplies for both the country, as well as for the region of South-East Europe".
