The Southern Gas Corridor strengthens the integration of EU energy markets by connecting new gas supplies from Azerbaijan to European consumers, Washington-based foreign policy and energy strategist Umud Shokri told Report.
It promotes competition, market transparency, and price stability, benefiting both producers and consumers, he noted.
"The Southern Gas Corridor provides EU countries with an alternative source of natural gas, reducing their dependence on a single supplier or route. This diversification enhances energy security and reduces vulnerability to potential supply disruptions," he added.
"The Southern Gas Corridor includes the Trans-Adriatic Pipeline (TAP), which transports natural gas from Azerbaijan's Shah Deniz field to Europe. Although natural gas is a fossil fuel, it is considered a relatively cleaner energy source compared to coal. This contributes to the EU's efforts to transition to a more sustainable and low-carbon energy mix."
