The upcoming cooperation agreement in the oil industry, set to be attended by the Prime Minister of Pakistan in Lahore, marks another significant milestone in their bilateral ties, Qaiser Nawab, an Executive Director at Global Strategic Institute for Sustainable Development - GSISD.
“The potential purchase of LNG from Azerbaijan could significantly alleviate Pakistan's energy needs while providing Azerbaijan with a new market for its LNG exports. This agreement has the potential to diversify Pakistan's energy sources and strengthen Azerbaijan's position as a key LNG exporter in the region, opening the door to further energy cooperation in the future,” he said.
According to Nawab, in the area of energy and infrastructure, Azerbaijan's prowess as a major oil and gas producer complements Pakistan's growing energy demands, offering a promising market for Azerbaijani energy companies.
“Additionally, Azerbaijan's expertise in agriculture and food processing can support Pakistan's burgeoning food industry, while Pakistan's textile prowess can benefit Azerbaijan's fashion sector. In the field of information technology, both countries are hubs of talent, and closer cooperation can lead to technological advancements and increased competitiveness in the global IT market,” the expert stressed.
Nawab noted that in the defense sector, joint military exercises and high-level visits demonstrate a commitment to strengthening defense cooperation, underlining the importance of regional stability and sovereignty.
