Pakistan is in talks with Russia over a new spot deal to buy crude oil, Zahid Mir, executive director of Pakistan Refinery Limited, said, Report informs referring to foreign media.
He dismissed claims that Pakistan's imports of Russian crude oil had been suspended due to refining issues.
"Russian oil was successfully refined and the spot deal was technically and commercially feasible," Zahid Mir said.
Pakistan placed its first order for 100,000 tons of Russian crude in April this year after months of negotiations between the two countries over the terms of the deal. Two vessels carrying crude oil from Russia arrived at the port of Karachi on June 11 and 26, after which no Russian oil vessel entered Pakistan. In total, they brought 101,000 tons of crude oil.
Russian oil is supplied to Pakistan Refinery Limited, which blends it with Arabian light oil for processing.
Last week, a number of Pakistani media outlets, citing sources, reported that Pakistan had suspended imports of crude oil from Russia after the refining process produced more fuel oil and less gasoline than oil from Saudi Arabia.
