Serbia could triple gas supplies from Azerbaijan in 2027, Serbian Mining and Energy Minister Dubravka Djedovic-Handanovic told reporters after the launch ceremony of the Serbia-Bulgaria Gas Interconnector on Dec.10.
“At the moment, we want to operate this gas pipeline at full capacity. In the future, if the need arises, we will be able to expand it to 3.2 billion cubic meters. This will almost completely satisfy Serbia's gas needs by almost 100 percent. Currently, the main source of gas for this pipeline is Azerbaijan, and we have signed a contract for the supply of 400 million cubic meters of gas until 2026. Starting in 2027, supply volumes may almost triple,” she said.
According to the minister, the launch of the Serbia-Bulgaria Gas Interconnector is important for the continuation of good relations between Azerbaijan and Serbia.
“We will be able to deliver much more gas to our homes and businesses. Thanks to additional supplies from Azerbaijan, we will be able to expand gas communications in this part of our country. This will further deepen our bilateral strategic relationship in the energy sector. Thanks to the excellent relations between our presidents, Serbia will strengthen its position on the map as a key gas transit country,” Dubravka Djedovic-Handanovic added.
