DECEMBER 28, 2023

Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev took part in the ceremony of commissioning and connecting to the network five solar and one wind power plant in six regions of the country, Report informs referring to Uzbek media.

Projects were implemented jointly with foreign companies - Masdar, China Energy Engineering Corporation, China Energy International Group, China Gezhouba Group, SEPCO III, Dongfang Electric Corporation, etc.

Mirziyoyev emphasized that the republic is implementing a large-scale program to reform and increase the stability of the energy system, and the current event - connecting 6 large solar and wind stations to the network with a total capacity of 2,400 megawatts - “opens another bright page in the history of the country.”

He noted that these projects are being implemented through foreign direct investment on the basis of public-private partnership.

“Due to these projects with a total cost of $2 billion, 6 billion kilowatts of electricity will be produced per year, 2 billion cubic meters of natural gas will be saved, 2 million homes will be provided with continuous and guaranteed electricity. Added value of $4 billion will be created in the industrial and service sectors,” he added.

The country is currently working on projects to build 22 solar and wind power plants with a capacity of 9 gigawatts.

In general, by 2030 it is planned to increase the capacity of “green” power plants to 27 gigawatts. This will allow saving 25 billion cubic meters of natural gas annually and reducing emissions of harmful substances into the atmosphere by 34 million tons.
