Slovakia will make every effort to import gas from Azerbaijan, the Minister of Economy of Slovakia, Denisa Sakova, said in Baku.
She noted that Azerbaijan plays a fairly large role in the diversification of gas supplies to Central and Eastern Europe.
“We firmly believe that we can establish contacts and cooperation in the field of gas supplies to Slovakia, as well as to Eastern and Central Europe. Neighboring countries such as Austria, the Czech Republic, and Hungary have also expressed this interest. We will make every effort to import gas from Azerbaijan to Slovakia, and thereby diversify supplies and abandon Russian gas,” the minister said.
At the same time, she pointed out that Azerbaijan plans to increase gas production in the future.
Sakova added that the memorandum signed on May 7 during the Azerbaijan-Slovak business forum between the Azerbaijan Investment Company and Eximbanka SR provides for cooperation on projects for the construction of small hydroelectric power plants.
