AUGUST 26, 2024

TAP AG, the operator of the Trans-Adriatic Pipeline, will begin infrastructure work in September as part of the expansion of the gas pipeline's capacity.

The work is planned to be carried out at the Kipoi interconnection point (IP) on the Greek-Turkish border, where TAP connects to the Trans-Anatolian Natural Gas Pipeline.

"TAP planned from 19/09/24 until 30/09/24 infrastructural works at the IP of Kipoi as part of TAP Expansion Project following the successful outcome of the first Binding Phase of the 2021 Incremental Capacity Process. During this period TAP will maximize the available capacity at the IP and at the same time to act as a Reasonable and Prudent Operator, from Gas Day 17/09/24 until Gas Day 01/10/24 (included), the expected Technical Capacity at the IP of Kipoi will be 349,887,515 kWh/D while at the IP of Melendugno the expected Technical Capacity will be 290,866,796 kWh/d," reads the message.

Based on the results of the 2021 market testing, TAP shareholders committed to increasing its capacity by January 1, 2026, to 1.2 billion cubic meters per year from 10 billion cubic meters per year.

Earlier, TAP AG Managing Director Luca Schieppati said in an interview with Report that this is the first stage of the expansion project, and it is financed by TAP's own funds. The project budget is about 132 million euros. As part of this stage, another compressor unit will be installed at the existing compressor station in Kipoi and the equipment will be modernized. The supply of Azerbaijani gas via TAP began on December 31, 2020.
