Azerbaijan presented its energy efficiency policy roadmap during the event organized in collaboration with the International Energy Agency (IEA), within the COP29.
During the event, Deputy Energy Minister Orkhan Zeynalov emphasized Azerbaijan's support for international efforts in the fight against climate change. He stated that the country is committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and taking significant steps to accelerate the transition to a green economy, increase the share of renewable energy sources, and ensure energy efficiency.
It was noted that energy efficiency is a key component of Azerbaijan's energy transition policy and strategic documents. The country has been actively developing a legal and regulatory framework to support this initiative.
The energy efficiency policy roadmap, prepared under the European Union's EU4Energy program, reflects the current state of energy efficiency policies in Azerbaijan.
According to the roadmap, there is a potential for up to 50% energy efficiency in multi-apartment residential buildings in Azerbaijan. Realizing this potential could result in annual savings of up to 4.2 billion cubic meters of gas, reduce carbon emissions by up to 10 million tons, and create 125,000 new jobs
The event proceeded with panel discussions addressing future priorities, challenges, and solutions in energy efficiency, while also incorporating insights from international best practices.
