On May 20, 2025, the Energy Regulatory Agency of Azerbaijan (AERA) and the National Energy Regulatory Agency of Moldova (ANRE) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation in energy regulation. The signing ceremony took place in Baku during the official visit of ANRE's delegation led by General Director Alexei Taran.
The MoU was signed by Samir Akhundov, Chairman of the Board of AERA, and Alexei Taran, General Director of ANRE. This agreement establishes a framework for direct dialogue on bilateral and regional energy market regulation, ensuring effective information exchange during emergencies affecting the regional energy market. It also promotes cooperation through joint events focused on sharing experience in drafting and implementing regulatory reforms based on best international practices.
During the visit, the parties discussed current challenges and potential solutions related to gas market monitoring, integration and expansion of renewable energy sources in the grid, and measures to strengthen energy resilience.
This MoU aligns with both countries' commitments to enhance energy security and regulatory efficiency, contributing to the development of a more interconnected and resilient regional energy market.
