JUNE 18, 2025

Azerbaijan’s Minister of Energy, Parviz Shahbazov, met with a delegation led by Afrim Gashi, President of the Assembly of the Republic of North Macedonia, at the Ministry of Energy.

The meeting focused on expanding bilateral relations, particularly in the energy sector. Both sides emphasized the steady growth of political and economic ties between Azerbaijan and North Macedonia in recent years, including notable progress in energy cooperation. It was highlighted that Azerbaijan has been supplying natural gas to North Macedonia since last year, and there is mutual interest in strengthening this partnership in the long term. The North Macedonian Parliament expressed its full support for developing deeper energy cooperation.

During the discussions, the Azerbaijani side provided an overview of key energy projects currently underway in partnership with the European Union and its member states. These include the Southern Gas Corridor, regional green energy corridors, and the country's ongoing efforts to expand the use of renewable energy sources.

Azerbaijan's goals to increase the share of renewables in its installed energy capacity to 33% by 2027 and 44% by 2035 were also discussed, along with its strategies for exporting green energy to European markets. In this context, potential avenues for green energy supply and collaboration with North Macedonia were reviewed.
