Azerbaijan Sees 2.2% Rise in Electricity Output in First Half of 2025

Azerbaijan’s electricity production grew by 291.5 million kWh, or 2.2%, in the first half of 2025 compared to the same period last year, reaching a total of 13,849.3 million kWh, according to preliminary operational data.

During this period, thermal power plants (TPPs) accounted for the bulk of generation, producing 11,519.2 million kWh. Hydropower plants (HPPs) generated 1,860 million kWh, while other sources, including renewable facilities, contributed 470.1 million kWh. More specifically, wind power plants (WPPs) produced 21 million kWh, solar power plants (SPPs) generated 314.6 million kWh, and the solid household waste incineration plant produced 134.5 million kWh.

Electricity generation from renewable sources totaled 2,330.1 million kWh in the first half of 2025, marking a notable increase of 297.2 million kWh over the same period last year.

Looking at company figures, Azerenergy OJSC generated a total of 12,323.2 million kWh, including 10,441.4 million kWh at its TPPs, 1,851.1 million kWh at HPPs, and 30.7 million kWh at its SPPs. Azerishig OJSC’s WPPs contributed 14.6 million kWh, while independent power producers added 1,511.5 million kWh.

During these six months, Azerbaijan exported 709.9 million kWh of electricity and imported 81.1 million kWh, further underscoring the country’s strengthening position in regional energy markets.
