Kazakhstan Sees Significant Growth in Renewable Energy Output in First Half of 2025

JULY 28, 2025

Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Energy has published electricity production data from renewable energy sources (RES) for the first half of 2025, showing notable progress in the country’s transition to clean energy.

Between January and June, renewable energy facilities across Kazakhstan generated a total of 4.237 billion kilowatt-hours (kWh) of electricity. Wind power led the way, accounting for the majority share with 2.6 billion kWh—over 60% of the total renewable output.

Solar power plants followed with 1.05 billion kWh, while small hydropower stations produced 572 million kWh. Bio-power plants made a modest contribution of 1.39 million kWh.

By the end of June 2025, Kazakhstan’s total installed capacity of renewable energy facilities reached 3,122 megawatts (MW), broken down as follows:

Renewables accounted for 6.81% of Kazakhstan’s total electricity production during the reporting period, underlining the growing role of clean energy in the national grid.
