BP completes vocational education project to boost renewable energy training in Azerbaijan

JULY 31, 2025

BP has announced the successful completion of a major vocational education initiative aimed at improving the quality of training in renewable energy technologies across Azerbaijan.

According to the company, the project reflects BP and its co-venturers’ ongoing commitment to advancing education and sustainable development in the country.

The project was designed to equip vocational students and instructors with both theoretical knowledge and practical skills relevant to the rapidly evolving renewable energy sector. It consisted of two major components.

The first component involved establishing two modern, fully equipped renewable energy workshops. One was set up at the Baku State Vocational Education Center for Construction and Installation, and the other at the Baku State Vocational Education Center for Techniques and Technologies. These state-of-the-art training spaces are tailored to provide hands-on learning using real-life scenarios. Each center is outfitted with solar and wind power systems, giving students the opportunity to develop practical competencies aligned with current industry practices.

The second component focused on integrating a comprehensive climate change and environmental training module into the existing vocational education curriculum. The module includes content on global warming, human impacts on the climate, renewable energy as a mitigation measure, energy efficiency, and principles of sustainable development.

Bakhtiyar Aslanbayli, BP’s Vice President for the Caspian region, stated: “We are proud to have delivered a project that strengthens vocational education and supports the development of the renewable energy workforce in Azerbaijan. This initiative empowers students with hands-on skills, enhances teaching quality, and promotes environmental awareness—contributing to the country’s energy transition.”

The initiative was implemented by the World Skills Azerbaijan Association Public Union. It launched in May 2024 and concluded in July 2025, with a total project cost of 322,000 Azerbaijani manats (approximately $189,400).
