AUGUST 04, 2025

Azerbaijan’s economic and energy influence continues to grow, with its state oil company SOCAR emerging as a key international player, Economy Minister Mikayil Jabbarov told Euronews Turkish, Report informs.

Highlighting the country’s expanding energy outreach, Jabbarov pointed to the recent start of Azerbaijani natural gas exports to Syria via Türkiye’s Kilis province. Launched on August 2, this milestone marks Syria as the 14th nation to receive Azerbaijani gas through various pipelines.

The inauguration ceremony for the Türkiye–Syria gas pipeline took place in Kilis, just seven kilometers from the Syrian border. High-level attendees included Turkish Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar, Qatar Fund for Development President Fahad Hamad Al Sulaiti, Syrian Minister of Energy Mohammed al-Bashir, and Minister Jabbarov himself.

"This latest development positions Azerbaijan as an increasingly significant global energy provider," Jabbarov said. He emphasized that secure and consistent energy supply would be vital in supporting Syria’s reconstruction and economic stabilization efforts.

According to Jabbarov, Azerbaijani gas will not only stabilize power generation but also improve living conditions for millions in Syria. Beyond its economic value, the minister described the project as a diplomatic achievement, helping to advance bilateral relations between Azerbaijan and Syria. He recalled recent meetings between the presidents of the two countries in Antalya and Baku as part of growing diplomatic ties.

Jabbarov attributed the project's success to the strong strategic partnership between Azerbaijan and Türkiye, thanking both nations for their collaboration. He also expressed gratitude to the Government of Qatar for its essential role in facilitating the initiative.
