Romania’s Minister of Energy, Bogdan-Gruia Ivan, has reaffirmed the strong strategic energy dialogue between Romania and Azerbaijan, noting that expanding cooperation in the field of renewable energy remains a growing priority for both countries.
In an interview with the Report, Minister Ivan emphasized that while no specific solar or wind energy projects are currently in negotiation, both sides have shown shared interest in exploring future joint initiatives focused on green energy development.
"Azerbaijan plays a vital role as an energy-producing nation, and Romania, as an EU member state, is keen on pursuing energy diversification and bolstering energy security,” said the minister. “We see high potential for collaboration in areas such as natural gas imports, green electricity transmission, Black Sea energy transport infrastructure, and broader regional energy security."
According to Ivan, these potential areas of cooperation align well with the European Union’s priorities around energy diversification, the green transition, and strengthening resilience to geopolitical challenges.
The remarks underscore Romania’s intention to deepen its energy ties with Azerbaijan not only in the traditional hydrocarbons sector but also within the renewable energy space, reinforcing the long-term strategic partnership between the two nations.
