Azerbaijan’s Finance Minister Sahil Babayev met with a delegation led by Rachel Thompson, the Asian Development Bank (ADB) Executive Director representing Azerbaijan on the ADB Board of Directors, according to Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Finance, as reported by Day.Az.
Both sides expressed satisfaction with the strong cooperation between Azerbaijan and the ADB, noting that the partnership has significantly contributed to the country’s socio-economic development through loans, grants, and technical assistance. The meeting focused on the ADB’s Country Partnership Strategy for Azerbaijan for 2025–2029, which outlines measures to diversify the economy, enhance resilience, and promote inclusive growth.
Minister Babayev highlighted Azerbaijan’s stable economic growth and macroeconomic stability, emphasizing successful diversification efforts in agriculture, information and communication technologies, industrial production, logistics, and green energy. He acknowledged the ADB’s support for projects under the “State Program for Improving Water Supply, Wastewater Management, and Stormwater Drainage Systems in Baku and the Absheron Peninsula for 2025–2034,” as well as the expansion of Baku’s metro lines and modernization of the country’s railway infrastructure.
Rachel Thompson praised the high level of collaboration between Azerbaijan and the ADB, expressing confidence in further deepening the partnership in the coming years.
