Parviz Shahbazov: Zangazur Corridor Set to Strengthen Energy and Transit Ties Among Azerbaijan, Türkiye, and Central Asia

SEPTEMBER 05, 2025

On 4th of September, at the 4th Azerbaijan-Türkiye Energy Forum in Izmir, Azerbaijan’s Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov highlighted the transformative potential of the Zangazur Corridor, which will facilitate the delivery of hydrocarbons and green energy from the Caspian Sea and Central Asia to Türkiye and global markets via Nakhchivan, as reported by Report.

Shahbazov emphasized the strategic importance of the Igdir-Nakhchivan gas pipeline, a key project driven by the strong political commitment of Azerbaijan and Türkiye. “This pipeline establishes a direct land-based gas supply route between Nakhchivan and Türkiye, with enhanced transmission capacity enabling reverse flow. It marks a new milestone in the Azerbaijan-Türkiye energy partnership,” he stated.

The minister noted that the Zangazur Corridor will not only provide seamless connectivity between mainland Azerbaijan and Nakhchivan but also boost energy and communication links with Türkiye and other Turkic states. The corridor is set to position participating countries as vital hubs for energy, transportation, and transit along the Middle Corridor.

Citing President Ilham Aliyev, Shahbazov underscored that the Zangazur Corridor will emerge as a critical component of both the Middle Corridor and the North-South transport corridor in the coming years, fostering peace, multilateral cooperation, and economic benefits for neighboring countries across east-west and north-south routes.
