A recent Board Meeting chaired by Azerbaijan’s Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov, attended by ministry units and agencies, focused on advancing the Green Energy Zone Action Plan for the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, according to the Ministry of Energy.
Shahbazov emphasized that Azerbaijan’s energy sector is progressing in line with the strategic vision of President Ilham Aliyev, positioning the country as a leader in regional cooperation projects. He highlighted that Azerbaijan’s energy policy not only serves national interests but also fosters international collaboration.
The meeting reviewed progress on key initiatives, including the First State Program on the Great Return to Azerbaijan’s Liberated Territories, the 2022–2026 Action Plan for establishing a green energy zone in these territories, and the 2023–2027 Socio-Economic Development Program for Nakhchivan. Discussions covered the deployment of renewable energy infrastructure, including solar, wind, and hydropower plants, as well as energy efficiency assessments, geothermal and bioenergy utilization, hydrogen technology, and hydroaccumulation systems in the liberated areas. The board also addressed pilot projects for green technologies, the creation of a Green Energy Zone Demonstration Pavilion, and the adoption of energy-efficient lighting for streets and roads.
Specific focus was given to developing the concept and Action Plan for Nakhchivan’s Green Energy Zone, alongside a feasibility study for an export-oriented infrastructure project. The Ministry also reviewed its performance in the first half of 2025, analyzing executive discipline, citizen application handling, document management, and compliance with presidential decrees and the ministry’s work plan.
The meeting concluded with directives issued to advance the discussed initiatives, reinforcing Azerbaijan’s commitment to sustainable energy development and regional leadership.
