President Aliyev Launches Two 50 MW Solar Projects in Jabrayil

OCTOBER 29, 2025

On October 28, Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev marked a milestone in the nation’s green energy push by laying the foundation stones for the 50 MW “Shams” and 50 MW “Ufug” solar power plants in Shahvalli village, Jabrayil district, according to the Presidential Press Service.

Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov briefed the President on the “Shams” project, underscoring its role in expanding Jabrayil’s renewable energy footprint. The twin initiatives follow a March 2024 Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Energy and Nobel Energy for a 100 MW solar facility, as well as April 2024 investment agreements with Clean Energy Jabrayil LLC (“Shams”) and Enerso Jabrayil LLC (“Ufug”). Last year, 229 hectares of state land were allocated  hectares to Clean Energy Jabrayil LLC and over 93 hectares to Enerso Jabrayil LLC.

Once operational in 2027, the combined plants will produce 206 million kWh of electricity annually, conserving 44 million cubic meters of natural gas and reducing CO₂ emissions by 96,000 tons. Of this output, 75 million kWh will supply Azerenerji OJSC, while 131 million kWh will be sold directly to major industrial consumers through virtual transmission contracts.
