Initial Discussion Seminar Held on the Feasibility Study (FS) Document for the First Phase of the “Central Asia – Azerbaijan Green Energy Corridor”

MARCH 05, 2026

In Baku, the first seminar dedicated to discussing the Technical-Economic Feasibility Study (TEFS/Feasibility Study) document for the first development phase of the “Central Asia – Azerbaijan Green Energy Corridor” project was organized.

According to information from the Ministry of Energy, the event was attended by high-level state representatives from Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan, transmission system operators, officials from regulatory bodies, as well as representatives of the Asian Development Bank (ADB), the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), and other stakeholders.

Azerbaijan’s Deputy Minister of Energy Orkhan Zeynalov described the project as a strategically important initiative for the region, emphasizing that the corridor has the potential to connect the Caspian and Black Sea basins and transport Central Asia’s clean renewable energy resources to European markets. He noted that, in addition to the countries officially involved in the project, other regional states are showing serious interest in joining this initiative.

Kazakhstan’s Deputy Minister of Energy Sanjar Jarkeşov recalled his country’s rich energy potential and stated that Kazakhstan aims to reach a total installed power generation capacity of 26 GW by 2030, with 30–35 percent coming from renewable energy sources. He highlighted Kazakhstan’s intention to export clean energy to European markets through this green energy corridor.

Feruz Kurbonov, Deputy Chairman of the Board of “Uzbekistan National Electric Grid,” described the project as highly promising and noted that Uzbekistan is making large investments in its domestic energy infrastructure. He pointed out that by connecting to the regional grid by 2030, Uzbekistan will have the opportunity to export additional electricity to Europe.

Sunniya Durrani Jamal, ADB Country Director for Azerbaijan, stated that the project will make a significant contribution to strengthening energy connectivity and economic integration in the region.

During the seminar, the Italian company “CESI S.p.A.” presented the preliminary technical-economic findings of the Feasibility Study. The presentation provided detailed information on the positive results achieved in the first phase, the analytical framework, and the upcoming stages.

At the end of the event, participants reached agreement on completing the Feasibility Study report for the first phase, preparations for Phase II, key technical assumptions, data requirements, and future steps.

It should be noted that the technical-economic feasibility study for the “Central Asia – Azerbaijan Green Energy Corridor” is being conducted in partnership with the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), and is supported by a Memorandum of Understanding signed in April 2025.

This project aims to strengthen regional energy security and accelerate the green energy transition by enabling the export of Central Asia’s abundant renewable energy potential to Europe.
