President Ilham Aliyev: “Azerbaijan plans to increase the number of importer countries of its energy resources”

MARCH 13, 2026

Azerbaijan’s contribution to the “OPEC+” format is highly appreciated at the international level.

This was stated by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev during his speech at the opening ceremony of the 13th Global Baku Forum.

The head of state emphasized that as a responsible member of OPEC+, Azerbaijan advocates for balanced and predictable oil prices: “Our activities within the OPEC+ framework are highly valued as a country that makes great efforts in mediation and finding compromise solutions.”

The President also noted that energy security has now become an integral part of states’ national security: “Azerbaijan produces and exports all types of energy resources — oil, natural gas, petroleum products, petrochemical products, and electricity. Taking into account the growing demand and the expansion of supply geography, we plan to increase exports, especially of natural gas and electricity. One year ago, the number of countries importing our gas was 12. Within one year, this figure has risen to 16. All these countries receive gas through pipelines.”

Ilham Aliyev added that Azerbaijan holds a leading position in the world in terms of the geography of gas supplies via pipelines: “Export volumes will increase, and this will be an important factor for the energy security of many countries. Azerbaijan will continue to contribute to energy security in the international market as a reliable supplier of oil.”

The President’s speech reflects a new stage in Azerbaijan’s strategy to expand the geography of its energy exports and increase its contribution to global energy security.
