The State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) is undergoing a transformation into an AI‑driven, data‑managed, integrated, and diversified energy company, Report informs, citing SOCAR Vice‑President Ziba Mustafayeva at the opening ceremony of the 20th Baku Summer Energy School organised by ADA University's Institute for Development and Diplomacy.
She stated that while the company continues its activities in traditional segments of the oil and gas sector – production, transportation, refining, and trading – it is simultaneously expanding its portfolio towards energy transition and green energy. "Our green operations unit has already been active in solar and wind energy for several years, working in cooperation with relevant regulatory bodies. We are currently considering opportunities for regional expansion. This means we have already accumulated certain experience to think about scaling up, while also exploring different components of green energy that go beyond just solar and wind."
Mustafayeva emphasised that as a state‑owned company, SOCAR operates in alignment with the country's sustainable development strategy, industrial policies, and the economic policies and strategies successfully formulated by the President of Azerbaijan. "We are fully aligned with those directions and implement them with a great sense of responsibility. Naturally, we adapt to ongoing changes, and we do this by adjusting our strategy accordingly."
The Vice‑President noted that this year, SOCAR was awarded the "Lighthouse" prize at the World Economic Forum in Dallas. "This means that the AI‑driven digital solutions, automation, and various technological innovations implemented at SOCAR's Urea Plant in Azerbaijan have attracted international attention. As a result, the experience and unique conditions we have developed have been recognised, and now it is possible to share this knowledge with the world. Another example is BTC. The operatorship of this giant infrastructure, with a 20‑year operational history, has been transferred from BP to SOCAR. This demonstrates that we have the local capacity to manage infrastructure of this scale. We have developed this experience and can share it – not only with one country but with others as well, because BTC is a project that spans several countries."
