Iraq and Syria Sign Agreement on Rehabilitation of Haditha–Baniyas Oil Pipeline

Iraq and Syria have signed a memorandum of understanding on the rehabilitation and recommissioning of the Haditha (Iraq)–Baniyas (Syria) oil pipeline.
According to Report, the information was released by the INA news agency.
The agreement covers the restoration of the oil pipeline stretching from the city of Haditha in central Iraq to the Syrian Mediterranean port of Baniyas.
U.S.-based Chevron will lead the implementation of the project. According to Al-Monitor, the technical and feasibility studies will be carried out by a consortium comprising Chevron, U.S. company Capital TI, and Qatar's UCC.
The Iraqi government believes that restoring the Haditha–Baniyas pipeline will significantly increase the transportation of crude oil produced in the northern province of Kirkuk to Syria's Mediterranean coast. The crude is subsequently expected to be exported to European markets.
