BP plans to announce a new "Train the Trainers" programme jointly with the Solar Energy Institute, which has branches in eight countries, including Germany, Report informs, citing Bakhtiyar Aslanbayli, BP's Vice President for the Caspian, Central Asia, and Türkiye region, speaking at the opening of a modern renewable energy laboratory at the Azerbaijan State Oil and Industry University (ASOIU).
According to him, everyone contributed to the completion of the project and its reaching the next stage: "The foundation of the project was laid in 2020. At that time, renewable energy was one of the special directions in BP's strategy. When the initiative was first put forward in 2020, one of the key issues was how to build human capacity in the field of renewable energy in the country. At that time, discussions were held on supporting this initiative, and the ministry expressed great willingness to back such an initiative."
Aslanbayli noted that after initial investment was secured, the programme was implemented with the initiative and support of the Ministry of Science and Education: "Such a dual programme was made possible through the exceptional support first of the Ministry of Education and later the Ministry of Science and Education. The scientific and technical base of the programme, including the laboratories, was created precisely within this project. Under the project, teachers' English language skills were improved, and support programmes were implemented for two groups – two cohorts of students. The centre we are inaugurating today is not just an investment in equipment and a laboratory for us. It is an investment in Azerbaijan's human capital, human potential, and the future of the new energy sector, especially renewable energy."
He added that BP's projects in Azerbaijan in the field of renewable energy do not end here: "To date, the first textbook in Azerbaijani, 'Introduction to Renewable Energy Resources,' has been translated. In addition, smaller‑scale laboratories have been established in two vocational schools. In the coming days, we plan to announce a new 'Train the Trainers' programme jointly with the Solar Energy Institute, which has branches in eight countries, including Germany. Under this programme, it is planned to train 20 trainers in renewable energy. Work is currently under way to set up a laboratory on energy storage systems at Baku State University. We will have discussions on this direction next week, and we are on the verge of signing the contract."
