“Report” reports that during a meeting with representatives of the U.S. business community in New York, Erdogan said that important agreements had been reached between Turkey and the United States in the energy, aviation, and other strategically important sectors.
Erdogan noted that it would be incorrect to assess economic relations between Turkey and the United States solely on the basis of trade figures. According to him, there is a need to develop a new model of economic cooperation between the two countries.
The Turkish President said that the first of these areas is the restructuring of supply chains. He noted that companies are now looking not only for the lowest-cost options, but also for more reliable ones.
He said that the second key area is the restructuring of energy routes. In this context, the Turkish President highlighted the Baku–Tbilisi–Ceyhan (BTC) oil pipeline and the Trans-Anatolian Natural Gas Pipeline (TANAP) project.
Stating that the third area is the transformation of trade corridors, Erdogan emphasized that the Middle Corridor, which connects Asia with Europe, as well as the route connecting the Gulf countries with Europe, intersect in Turkey.
“Turkey’s contracting sector, with its experience of operating in challenging geographical conditions, is the best-prepared participant in this process,” Erdogan said.
According to Erdogan, there are broad opportunities for effective cooperation between U.S. businesses and Turkey in all of the areas mentioned above.
