SLB signs agreement to process seismic data from "Karabakh" field

OCTOBER 16, 2026

BP has signed an agreement with oilfield services company SLB to process seismic data as part of the development of the "Karabakh" field in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea.

The agreement is considered a continuation of two previous contracts signed between SLB and BP for other offshore oil and gas projects in the Caspian Sea operated by BP.

SLB said that its extensive regional expertise and long-standing presence in Azerbaijan, combined with high-quality imaging capabilities and practical reservoir knowledge, continue to contribute to advancing seismic exploration standards in the Caspian Basin.

In June 2025, during Baku Energy Week, BP signed an agreement with SOCAR to acquire a 35% participating interest in the Karabakh field development project. SOCAR holds the remaining 65% interest.

BP plans to make the final investment decision on the "Karabakh" field by mid-2027.

The "Karabakh" field is located 120 km east of Baku, 20–25 km from the Gunashli field, at a depth of 150–200 meters. Preliminary estimates indicate that the field contains more than 60 million tons of geological oil reserves, including recoverable reserves of around 21 million tons of oil and 13 billion cubic meters of gas.
